University Health Women’s & Children’s Hospital earns LEED Gold
The University Health Women’s & Children’s Hospital has earned LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
Our LEED certification ensures electricity cost savings, lower carbon emissions and healthier environments for our patients and staff. In the U.S., buildings account for almost 40 percent of national CO2 emissions, but LEED-certified buildings have 34 percent lower CO2 emissions, consume 25 percent less energy and 11 percent less water, and have diverted more than 80 million tons of waste from landfills. LEED projects earn points by adhering to prerequisites and credits across nine measurements for building excellence from integrative design to human health to material use.
LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a globally recognized symbol of excellence in sustainable building, and its LEED Gold certification means the hospital has enough green building features in its design, construction and daily use to earn the organization’s second-highest ranking.
The Women’s & Children’s Hospital, which was designed by Marmon Mok and ZGF, joins the ranks of University Health LEED-certified buildings that include the University Hospital Sky Tower, designed by Perkins+Will, RVK, and Garza Bomberger & Associates, and the Robert B. Green Pavilion downtown, designed by the architectural team of RTKL and Overland Partners.
