Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Oncology Pharmacy Residency
Overview
University Health, in collaboration with The University of Texas College of Pharmacy, is offering a Postgraduate Year 2 (PGY2) Oncology Pharmacy Residency. This 12-month residency is designed to provide a challenging training environment for individuals interested in developing clinical competency in hematology/oncology.
As full-time team members of University Health, residents receive a competitive annual stipend of $62,000 plus excellent benefits. Residents are also appointed as Clinical Instructors with The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy.
Purpose
PGY2 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with the knowledge, skills and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions and board certification in the advanced practice area, if available.
Description
The University Health PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency Program offers a challenging and well-rounded training environment that exposes residents to a variety of acute disease states and clinical practice settings, including but not limited to hematology, medical oncology, specialty infusion clinic, gynecology/oncology, pediatric hematology/oncology and bone marrow transplant. In addition to direct patient care, residents will have opportunities to develop their academic skills by precepting pharmacy students and teaching other learners, as medical students and medical residents. Residents will also demonstrate leadership and practice management skills through completion of a research project, committee involvement and protocol development. Graduates of the program will be prepared to accept clinical pharmacy specialist and faculty positions related to hematology/oncology.
