Advanced Lung Cancer Screening

We know that with cancer treatment, time is of the essence. The sooner you can confirm a diagnosis and start treatment, the better. This is why the University Health Pulmonary team utilizes state-of-the-art technologies to detect lung cancer sooner and more accurately. This gives you a better chance at recovery.

ION Robotic-Assisted Bronchoscopy

Our team uses the ION robotic-assisted bronchoscopy system. This tool allows our pulmonary team to navigate the complex pathways of the lung with better accuracy, enabling them to perform a biopsy of small and hard-to-reach nodules that were previously inaccessible with traditional methods.

Benefits of ION Robotic Bronchoscopy

The ION system has made detecting lung cancer easier and allows your care team to provide faster, more accurate results and timely treatment. This system offers several key benefits, including:

  • Minimally invasive approach that reduces discomfort and recovery time.
  • Exceptional precision for accurate biopsies.
  • Detect lung cancer at earlier stages when treatment is most effective.

What to Expect During the Procedure

If your care team decides the ION robotic-assisted bronchoscopy right for you, here's what you can expect during the procedure:

  • You will be given anesthesia before going into the procedure.
  • Your physician will carefully navigate an ultra-thin catheter through your airway to reach the targeted area in your lung.
  • Once the catheter is correctly positioned, your physician will insert biopsy tools through it to collect tissue samples from your lung.
  • Most patients go home the same day with minimal discomfort. Your care team will provide follow-up instructions and discuss next steps once results are available.

Your Health is Our Priority

We are dedicated to utilizing the latest technological advancements to improve outcomes and enhance the quality of life for our patients.

If you have been diagnosed with a suspicious lung nodule or mass, or if you are at high risk for lung cancer, we encourage you to talk with our team to determine if the ION robotic-assisted bronchoscopy is the right option for you. Early detection and accurate diagnosis are vital steps toward effective treatment and recovery.
