Breast Health Support Services

University Health is a Certified Quality Breast Center of Excellence – one of only four in all of Texas. This designation exemplifies our belief that comprehensive breast care should be available to everyone in our community. Our support services begin with expert care and extend to support groups for breast cancer survivors. Patient navigators also are here to help.

Community Outreach

Our nurses and other experts bring the message of breast health to your corporation, health fair or professional organization at no charge. We can tailor a presentation especially for your group, provide screenings, discuss breast cancer prevention and much more.

Breast Cancer Support

University Health experts understand breast cancer affects the entire person – and the entire family. We bring together physicians, nurse specialists and other practitioners throughout University Health to bring you innovative, holistic breast cancer care that addresses your medical and emotional needs. We will stay at your side throughout the entire process, from diagnosis to discharge to follow-up.

When you choose us for breast cancer treatment, you will immediately be assigned a patient navigator who will walk with you every step of the way. Your patient navigator will assist you with care coordination, scheduling, insurance, funding and more. You will never be alone in your breast cancer journey, because your patient navigator is always a phone call away.

We also offer a breast cancer support group and other support services to help you get through this challenging time.

Breast Reconstruction Grant

The Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at UT Health San Antonio received a charitable care grant from the Plastic Surgery Foundation to provide additional financial assistance to patients undergoing breast reconstruction.

Patients may receive up to $1,500 to assist with expenses relating to the indirect costs of breast reconstruction such as cost of transportation, parking, lost wages and child care.

Through this program, we hope to make breast reconstruction a reality to women who would otherwise not be able to afford this important aspect of their cancer care.

Grant recipients will chosen by application process. Patients are also eligible for consideration through CareLink, University Health’s financial assistance program.

  • Travel: Each patient will be reimbursed up to $400 in travel costs for breast reconstruction surgery and follow-up. Transportation may occur by personal automobile, bus, air or other accepted mode of travel. If the patient travels by car, they will be reimbursed at the State of Texas mileage rate of $0.535/mile. Parking expenses will also be reimbursed.
  • Lost wages: If employed, the patient may be reimbursed for the cost of lost wages for one month, up to a maximum of $900.
  • Day care expenses: Each patient may be reimbursed up to a maximum of $200 dollars to assist with child care costs incurred solely as a result of the breast reconstruction surgery.
