Consider your colon! Take a tour! What you learn might save your life.
March 09, 2017
BACKGROUND: March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month. Many people find the idea of a colonoscopy unsettling, but any colon cancer survivor can tell you that it’s a walk in the park compared to being diagnosed with colon cancer. So if you can stop cancer in its tracks, why wouldn’t you?
At University Hospital, people can learn about their own risk for colorectal cancer by taking a free health risk assessment and talking with experts about the results. They will also be able to see what a colon actually looks like — with examples of healthy tissue, precancerous tissue and tumors — by walking through a giant inflatable colon. The event runs from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday and is free and open to the public.
WHO: UT Health San Antonio oncologists specializing in colon cancer and other cancer specialists
WHEN: Oncologists available for interviews from 10 a.m. – noon today in English and Spanish
