Hospitalized Kids Enjoy Halloween Fun
Halloween is a special day for kids. Dressing up in their favorite costume and collecting treats is synonymous with Oct. 31. However, for children in the hospital on Halloween, their experience can be much less festive.
The Child Life team at University Hospital didn’t want hospitalized children to miss out on the fun, so staff hosted a Halloween carnival for kids well enough to participate. The youngsters enjoyed dressing up in costumes and trick-or-treating at the event.
“Being in the hospital can be hard, especially for a child. Events, like the Halloween carnival, give children an opportunity to be kids and have fun,” said Monica Gibson, Child Life manager at University Health.
Halloween costumes donated to hospitalized children
There were many smiles and giggles as young patients and their families visited the Halloween carnival. They enjoyed making arts and crafts and collecting treats. Children had the opportunity to dress in their favorite costumes due to a generous donation from the Stay Strong Foundation, a University Health Foundation donor.
The popular therapy cat, Zane Grey, also dressed up for the occasion in his "mobile cat scan" to greet the carnival’s visitors.
Hospital staff joined the celebration by volunteering at craft tables and distributing goodies to all the princes, princesses and superheroes who attended. Donations from Disney and Starlight Children’s Foundation helped make the day special for patients.
University Health wishes everyone a safe and fun Halloween. For tips about celebrating safely, visit the Newsroom on our website.
