Domestic Violence Resource Fair offers free education and resources
Love is many things but it is not hurtful, controlling or abusive.
During October, we are observing Domestic Violence Awareness month. The observance reminds us to talk about intimate partner violence and abuse in the home instead of hiding it. When we approach the topic with compassion, we create opportunities for action and ease feelings of shame – and we are more likely to reach victims before it is too late.
University Health and our community partners invite the public to University Hospital Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for a free Domestic Violence Resource Fair. Learn what to do if you or someone you care about is involved in an abusive situation.
One in three individuals - men and women - in the US report experiencing intimate partner violence in their lifetime. In Texas, that number jumps to one in four for women who will experience intimate partner violence. In 2018, the most recent data available, 174 women were killed by intimate partner violence.
Join us to raise awareness and stop the cycle of domestic violence in Bexar County. Help end the abuse by speaking up about violent behavior. Learn how to talk to a loved one who may be impacted and gather information about resources available to help victims thrive after leaving an abusive situation.
“Every bit of knowledge can be a lifeline to someone in need. We are creating a safe and supportive space for those seeking information or help,” said Rosemary Williams, senior program coordinator with the Trauma Survivor Network at University Health.
