“Advocate for patients in the modern bewildering medical environment.”
Education
I am a board-certified cardiologist with University Medicine Associates.
I earned my medical degree from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. I went on to complete my residencies and cardiology fellowship at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
I was inspired to become a medical provider after watching my uncle do cataract surgery and realizing the impact he made on that patient's life. The patient went from almost blind to seeing 20/20 after surgery. I thought, "Being a doctor is for me," and switched from a music career path to medicine.
Philosophy of Care
There are lots of things to discuss about patient care, but two things have stood out to me as being helpful:
  1. Don't provide a superficial Band-Aid type fix for complex medical problems. Patients need someone to delve deeply into the medical issues and provide real help.
  2. The entry into the world of doctors and hospitals and clinics can be bewildering, and being an advocate to help patients negotiate the current medical system of care is helpful.
My top three favorite things about practicing medicine:
  1. People are appreciative of what you do.
  2. It is a rewarding career, especially to see patients' health improve under your care.
  3. I work with some great people. Throughout my career I have appreciated the quality of the colleagues around me.
Areas of Clinical Interest or Expertise
  • General cardiology, especially prevention and wellness.
  • Echocardiography: This is the best test in medicine! There is no other test that gives so much information with no pain, no adverse side effect and no invasive procedure involved!
