About
I am an associate professor of pediatrics at UT Health San Antonio and a neonatal-perinatal specialist at University Health. I completed my undergraduate studies at St. Mary’s University and received my MD at UT Health San Antonio. I completed residency at the San Antonio Military Medical Center at Brook Army Medical Center and completed fellowship training in Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine at UT Health San Antonio.
I served for 12 years in the United States Air Force as a pediatrician and neonatologist, completing tours at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Okinawa, Japan, and at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI. I earned a final rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
I am currently the Director of Neonatal Transport and Outreach at UT Health. I supervise the transport of over 100-140 urgent and emergent transports per year of critically ill neonates born throughout South Texas. In addition to providing transport support, I also supervise and participate in the education and training of the pediatric, family medicine and obstetric faculty and staff of the many small regional hospitals across South Texas, helping them prepare and manage complex neonatal cases.
I believe in supporting the medical front lines of rural Texas medical centers. This can be done by improving outcomes where resources can be limited and providing babies with the best possible care at a time when the first few minutes and hours of life can affect the course of their lives.
