Education
I earned my Bachelor of Science degree at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY, in 2011. I then earned my doctor of medicine at Saba University School of Medicine in the Saba Dutch Caribbean in 2015. In 2020, I completed my internal medicine residency at Nassau University Medical Center. In 2022, I completed my endocrinology fellowship at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, NY.
Philosophy of Care
My decision to become a physician was largely based on my belief in helping others regardless of their social or economic status. I grew up in Nigeria, which is a developing country in part of West Africa. As a result, I know what it is like not having access to good health care. I want to be able to close this gap and provide the best health care to all my patients regardless of where they come from or their socio-economic standings.
This profession requires hard work and dedication, and thankfully these attributes have been instilled in me since childhood. Being a physician is an act of service and I want to serve and help people by providing quality health care that is evidence-based.
Why I Chose Endocrinology
Endocrinology is one of the specialties that will allow me to fulfill my purpose in helping people from all walks of life, most especially those that have socio-economic disadvantage. One of the major chronic illnesses is diabetes mellitus, which is largely caused by obesity. Obesity is prevalent mostly in the lower-income environment due to lack of good nutrition or resources.
Inspiration
In a nutshell, improving the quality of life of another individual inspires me as a physician. Life is hard enough for many of us, and I feel privileged to be able to improve people’s health by providing great health care and education on how to have a better quality of life. I think this will take away from the other issues people have to deal with in their lives.
Areas of Focus
I would like to focus also more on obesity management because obesity is a disease by itself and is the underlying cause of most chronic diseases including diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and obstructive sleep apnea. I believe in taking care of the problem from the root cause which in this case is obesity.
Hobbies & Interests
Apart from practicing medicine, I love to spend quality time with my family. Also, as a physician with three wonderful kids, I want to be the very best example to them and every other kid that it is possible to achieve your dreams through education, passion, dedication and hard work.
I also love cooking, reading and traveling with my family.
