University Health opens new COVID-19 vaccine appointments for children under 5 years old

University Health has seen increased demand for COVID-19 vaccines for some of our youngest children, and have received additional vaccine that allows us to schedule more appointments beginning tomorrow morning. Parents can schedule shots for their children who are between 6 months and 5-years old on our website, WeCanDoItSA.com.

Starting tomorrow, July 8, registration will open every Friday morning for appointments the following week. The free vaccines will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Robert B. Green campus downtown located at 903 W. Martin St. We are only offering the Pfizer vaccine for this age group.

An adult family member or guardian must accompany the child to provide written consent for the vaccination.

The Pfizer vaccine series for this age group is a three-dose series, with the second dose administered three weeks after the first, and the third dose given eight weeks after the second. Follow-up doses will be scheduled at each of the visits. As with other COVID-19 vaccines, children will be observed for 15 minutes after receiving the vaccine.

For more information on the vaccine, visit Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine Overview and Safety | CDC.
