Free gun locks available at Holiday Safety Fair

The Injury Prevention team from University Health will distribute free gun locks at their annual Holiday Safety Fair at Ingram Park Mall on Wednesday, Dec. 11 from 2-6 p.m.

GunSafety4Bexar, a program launched in November by University Health and a coalition of Bexar County organizations, is making 17,000 gun locks available to families with firearms. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, Bexar County and Be SMART for Kids are among the coalition members. The goal is to reduce firearm injuries by urging owners to store their guns unloaded, locked and separate from ammunition.

Numerous public service organizations will stage additional demonstrations at the Holiday Safety Fair. You’ll learn how to select safe toys for kids, prevent distracted driving, recognize the signs of alcohol and drug problems and avoid injuries that often occur this time of year.
