The University Health Foundation supports several vital initiatives at University Health that aim to enhance care, improve the patient experience, expand access to care and support team member resiliency.
When making a gift, donors have the option of supporting our General Fund, which funds University Health’s greatest needs, or any one of our restricted funds, designated for specific uses. Historically, Foundation funds and donor dollars have served University Health patients and clinical teams on University Health campuses.
However, in a bold move to address health disparities across Bexar County, University Health Foundation created the Well Community Fund in 2023.
“We established the Well Community Fund to support University Health’s strategic initiatives beyond its walls,” Sara Alger, president of University Health Foundation, said. “We recognize that addressing non-medical drivers of poor health requires collaboration and partnerships. By working with other non-profits and organizations throughout Bexar County, along with University Health, we aim to be a part of the solution.”
The Well Community Fund represents a significant step toward ensuring access to care for everyone in our community.
This community-focused initiative involves a collaborative effort between the Foundation, University Health and its community partners. A primary partner is the University Health Institute for Public Health, which promotes health, disease prevention and prolonging life through targeted programs. They also focus on other vital public health efforts, including connecting patients in underserved areas of the county with targeted education and resources that optimize their health and well-being.
“If University Health’s Institute for Public Health identifies a partnership opportunity but it needs funds to get started, the Foundation can provide dollars from the Well Community Fund to help fuel that partnership,” Sara said.
