Abby Jack – Brain Injury Survivor

On April 17, 2009, Abby was buckled in her car seat on her way to Grandma’s house when her mom, Rachel, had a seizure and sent the car straight into a tree. Abby seemed fine, but her dad decided to take her to a nearby hospital just in case. Good thing he did. Abby had suffered a massive head injury. She was immediately rushed to the pediatric trauma team at University Hospital. She spent three weeks in a medically induced coma and ultimately achieved what many thought was impossible – a full recovery.

It took a large team of trauma and neurosurgical specialists to save Abby’s life. Because University Hospital is staffed with UT Health San Antonio specialists around the clock, Dr. David Jimenez, chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at UT Health Science Center San Antonio, and his team were waiting for Abby when she arrived and immediately took her into surgery. That’s The University Difference.
