Pediatric Rehabilitation
At University Health, we recognize the unique needs of our pediatric patients. We take a customized approach based on the type of physical, occupational or speech therapy your child may need.
We treat children on an inpatient and outpatient basis. We are one of only two pediatric inpatient rehabilitation programs in South Texas.
We provide focused, individualized care that uses cutting edge technology and the newest research available. Our treatments are enhanced by our engaged and compassionate staff.
What Is Pediatric Rehabilitation?
Our goal is to get your child to the highest level of functionality and physical strength. We work with you to formulate a treatment plan that fits your goals, expectations and capabilities.
Pediatric rehabilitation involves an interdisciplinary team consisting of:
- Physical medicine and rehabilitation
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Speech language pathology
Each part of our team is involved in maximizing your child's potential for development and level of function.
As cardiologists specialize in the heart, physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians (or also known as physiatrists) specialize in function. Our team works with your child so they can get around, dress, feed and care for themselves in an optimal way.
Your child may have been born with a condition that has caused gross and fine motor delays. Or, they may have sustained a brain or spinal cord injury that impairs function. Either way, we can help your child be as functional as possible.
